Winter Special: Dal-Dhokla

  • Ingredients:
    • Dhokla:
      • Maize flour(Makki ka aata): 3 cup.
      • Finely chopped onion: 1 unit.
      • Crushed Garlic, Ginger,and Green Chilli: 2 Table spoon.
      • Coriander Seeds: 1 Table Spoon.
      • Carom seeds(Ajwain): 1 Tea Spoon.
      • Papad Khar: 1 Tea Spoon.
      • Salt: 1 Tea Spoon.
      • Red Chilli: 1 Tea Spoon.
      • Green Peas: 1/4 cup.
      • Coriander: 2 Table Spoon
    • Dal:
      • Urad Dal: 1 Cup.
      • Gram Lentils(Chana Dal): 2 Table Spoon.
      • Finely Chopped Onion: 1.
      • Crushed Garlic, Ginger,and Green Chilli: 2 Table spoon.
      • Cumin seeds and Mustard Seeds(Rai): 1 Tea Spoon each.
      • Asafoetida(Heeng): 1/4 Tea Spoon.
      • Red Chilli Powder: 1 Table Spoon.
      • Garam Masala: 1/2 Tea Spoon.
      • Turmeric Powder: 1/3 Tea Spoon.
      • Coriander Powder: 1 Table Spoon.
      • Salt : as per taste.
      • Ghee: 2 Table Spoon.
      • Coriander leaves.
      • Lemon.
  • Procedure:
    • Dhokla:
      • Heat 2 cups of water. Add Papad Khar to it.
      • In the flour, add all the ingredients(of Dhokla) and prepare a soft dough with the help of water.
      • Make small “dhoklas”. These can be made as follows:
        • Make a small ball out of dough.
        • Then press it between your hands to flatten it.
        • Now, with the help of your Index finger, make a hole in the piece to prepare a dhokla.
      • Now, bake the dhokla in the steamer for 20 minutes.
      • Take out the dhoklas and deep fry them.
    • Dal:
      • Heat the ghee in a pan. Add Cumin and Mustard seeds to it.
      • Now, add the crushed Onion, Ginger, Green chilli and Garlic to it. Cook it till it attains brown color.
      • Add the spices. Add water and cook it till ghee comes to the top layer.
      • Add Dal and boil for 5 minutes.
      • Garnish it with coriander and add lemon juice if you wish to.
